Strainer
Fish
It is the year 2053 and today I had my first sip
of water purified by strainer fish. What are strainer
fish? Strainer fish are the newest purification
system used to turn wastewater into fresh water
suitable for drinking. They are effective and
cheap to produce.
Strainer fish are essentially blue fin tuna bread
by scientist to have metal strainers like you
might use to drain water out of your pasta. The
fish’s bodies, save their heads, are made
entirely out of the mesh-like substance used in
strainers. The fish are released into the pipes
and tanks that make up a water treatment plant
and as the fish swim around, the water passes
through the strainers and cleans the water. The
fish are taken out of the water every month to
be cleaned to ensure the purity of the water they
filter.
At first, the general public was a bit uneasy
with the idea of fish swimming around in the water
they were to drink, but after experiments, the
government deemed them safe and there are very
few scoffers. I think that we will be drinking
purified wastewater for a long time, all thanks
to our friends, the strainer fish. |

New Water Ways
It’s the year 2053,
and there are so many amazing ways to filter water!
Our house has a system of 5000 gallons under the
basement. It gets re-circulated by a machine in
our basement that all of the pipes in our house
lead to. It gets cleaned at about one gallon per
minute, which is the fastest yet model. Ours is
very noisy, and I wish we had a smaller, quieter
model. My friend has the fastest, smallest kind,
and she says the water tastes fresher.
Occasionally, we must get the tank refilled, but
the water committee comes out weekly to check
the water level and clean the filter. Everyone
is assigned a different committee member, so they
aren’t overworked. My brother says he wants
to be a committee member when he grows up because
of the neat blue uniforms, nametags, and shiny
silver pins, but he is only four. He’s been
begging me to sneak him into the basement, but
each time I tell him to ask mom.
There are a few other ways of purifying water,
but the government is still testing them. I hope
they will come out with new, faster ways of purifying
water! |

The Morganator
In the year 2053
a young scientist named Morgan Malone invented
a solution to
prevent water pollution. This new product called
the “Morganator” helps to separate
pollution that comes from household waste from
the good water.
Another one of Morgan’s inventions is Morganchlorine.
Morganchlorine can safely be added to streams
and lakes to automatically get rid of any type
pollution in the water.
The Morganator plus Morganchlorine together creates
a process which helps disintegrate the pollution
leaving only purified water behind. In 2053 all
boats and ships will be powered by batteries or
solar power instead of gasoline, which will eliminate
oil and fuel pollution.
By 2053 all trains will have had their tracks
re-routed away from natural water sources which
will eliminate the possibility of pollution when
trains crash and spill their loads into the water.
So in the future when you have the Morganator
combined with Morganchlorine combined with the
other positive changes water would be much less
polluted than it is today. Water will taste better
than ever due to the fabulous inventions of Morgan
Malone. |

HONORABLE
MENTION
The WIP
The year 2053 will revolutionize
the water usage issues of the world. An amazing
machine is able to purify water at the flip of
a switch. It is called “The WIP” (Water
Is Pure). Yes, The WIP is able to purify hundreds
of thousands of gallons of water within seconds.
There are about 500 master machines around the
world. Also, a smaller version of The WIP can
be installed in every home. They are affordable
and easy to install.
The way the machine works
is incredible. When the water enters the machine,
a chemical is released called “purifulm”.
This chemical is so powerful that it only takes
one drop of purifulm to purify twenty-five gallons
of water at a time. In the smaller household version,
only about eight gallons of water can enter the
machine at a time, so the water is definitely
clean by the time it leaves the machine. The WIP
is installed on the incoming water line. The purifulm
enters the water and automatically starts to kill
the bacteria in the water. Right before the water
leaves the machine, it passes through a series
of lasers that kill any bacteria that the purifulm
missed. The purifulm is recycled and used again
so there is no need to refill the machine with
new purifulm. What makes this process truly amazing
is that the entire process takes only a few seconds!
For the master machine, treatment plants will
cycle many more gallons with purifulm. All water
can be reused and recycled with The WIP. No need
to worry about new water sources. The WIP will
change the world.
