Conservation Has Become Our Lifestyle

Year to date through December, DSRSD customers used 18.0 percent less potable water than in the same period in 2013. Residential water use averaged 71.6 gallons per capita per day (GPCD) in December, down from 88.0 GPCD in December 2013. Thank you for your lasting commitment to wise water use!

Water Supplies Are Normal  

Our wholesale supplier, Zone 7 Water Agency, is receiving 85 percent of its 2017 allocation from the State Water Project, which typically supplies 80 percent of the Tri-Valley’s water. On November 30, the California Department of Water Resources announced an initial water allocation of 15 percent for 2018. This allocation is likely to increase, depending on rain and snowfall this winter. Although the fall has been drier than normal, long-range weather forecasts show equal chances of above- and below-normal precipitation in the Bay Area this winter.

Groundwater Basin Has Recovered from Drought

When surplus imported water is available, Zone 7 uses it to recharge the local groundwater basin. According to Zone 7's annual water supply evaluation, on April 1, 2017 the Tri-Valley's groundwater basin had recovered from the drought and was at 91 percent of operational capacity. Zone 7 also stores water in Lake Del Valle, San Luis Reservoir, and groundwater banks in Kern County to help meet the valley's water demands during dry years.

Recycled Water Makes Our Water Supply More Reliable

We have a more diverse, reliable water supply today because DSRSD began investing in recycled water infrastructure more than 20 years ago. In 2016, DSRSD customers used 787 million gallons of recycled water for irrigation and construction. That’s 24 percent of all the water the District sold in 2016, up from 19 percent in 2013 and 10 percent in 2006.

  • Get a rebate when you convert lawn to water-efficient landscaping or purchase a qualifying irrigation controller or high-efficiency clothes washer.

  • Make sure your restaurant or business is using water wisely, too.
