DSRSD Awards $497,100 to GSE Construction Company

DUBLIN, CA– At Tuesday night's board meeting, Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) awarded GSE Construction Company a contract for $497,100 to install a chloramination and water mixing system at Reservoir 3B (located in the west side of the service area).
Zone 7 Water Agency, DSRSD’s water wholesaler, adds chloramine (a disinfectant) to drinking water to protect it from disease-causing organisms and pathogens. However, during the hot summer and during low water use periods in the winter, the residual chloramine concentrations in DSRSD’s drinking water reservoirs and water distribution system degrade considerably and protection against microbial contamination can be compromised.
Last year, DSRSD completed installation of a chloramination system at Reservoir 1A (also located in the west side of the service area). “The chloramination system in Reservoir 1A was so effective at maintaining the desired chlorine residuals that we decided to add a similar system to Reservoir 3B,” said Engineering Services Manager Judy Zavadil. The District is currently developing a Water Quality Control Plan to evaluate installing similar systems at other reservoirs, as well as other measures to improve water quality.
Founded in 1953, DSRSD serves 178,000 people, providing potable and recycled water service to Dublin and the Dougherty Valley area of San Ramon, wastewater collection and treatment to Dublin and south San Ramon, and wastewater treatment to Pleasanton (by contract). DSRSD also operates the Jeffrey G. Hansen Water Recycling Plant and a backbone recycled water distribution system on behalf of the San Ramon Valley Recycled Water Program. The District office is located at 7051 Dublin Blvd., Dublin CA, 94568. For more information about the District, visit www.dsrsd.com.
