DUBLIN, CA (July 2, 2018) – Two seats on the Dublin San Ramon Services District Board of Directors are up for election on the Nov. 6 ballot.
Candidates may file a declaration of candidacy during the period of Monday, July 16, through Friday, Aug. 10. If no incumbent files nomination papers by the end of the filing period, the deadline is extended to Wednesday, Aug. 15, for non-incumbents only. Both four-year full terms will expire in 2022.
DSRSD will hold a Candidate Briefing from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, in the District office Boardroom, 7051 Dublin Blvd. Prospective candidates will receive an overview of DSRSD and have an opportunity to ask questions. Refreshments will be provided.
DRSRD Directors are elected in November of even-numbered years. The office is nonpartisan, and there are five directors-at-large, representing all constituents within the District’s service area. The terms are staggered, with two terms expiring in one even-numbered year and three terms expiring the following even-numbered year, in 2018 and 2020 respectively. One full term and one half term will expire this year.
Directors asked staff to explore avenues to increase public awareness of and interest in serving on the DSRSD Board. The free Citizens Water Academy held earlier this year provided an opportunity for customers to become familiar with the District. In addition, the DSRSD board decided to further subsidize the cost of running for the Board because candidates have to file in two counties: Alameda and Contra Costa. For this and future elections, candidates will pay $250 in each county instead of the $450 per county they paid previously. DSRSD will cover the remaining costs.
To be eligible to run for the Board of Directors, a candidate must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and a registered voter residing within the District’s boundaries. DSRSD is a multi-county agency with its service area in portions of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Candidates must file the appropriate paperwork with both counties.
Interested candidates can learn how to file and obtain more information from the DSRSD Elections page.
