There's Still Time to Let Us Know What You Think

Now's the Time to Draw Election Boundaries

Post Date:03/04/2019
Dublin San Ramon Services District is halfway through the process to transition from at-large elections to area-based elections. A demographer created four potential maps, each one creating five election divisions, one for each position on the Board of Directors. How do you think the lines should be drawn? Things to consider include: the ideal population for each election area is 16,973, although there can be an approximately 5 percent variance in order to achieve one of the other criteria listed here; all parts of the area should be connected; strive for compactness, but realize that natural and man-made barriers and boundaries (rivers and roadways) make it challenging to create election areas that are compact; and strive to create election areas with shared common interests (i.e., schools, shopping areas, housing, culture, language, employment). To help draw the lines to establish election boundaries, use the DSRSD 2019 Redistricting Proposal packet and population calculator. Also available are four potential maps (PDF and Google Maps) drawn by the demographer. Please submit your map(s) by March 8 for Board consideration.
