Primary Treatment Process to be Expanded, Improved

$19 Million Construction Project

Post Date:06/19/2019
Construction is underway on the $19 million Primary Sedimentation Expansion and Improvements Project and will continue through fall 2021. It involves partially demolishing one of the existing four primary sedimentation tanks and adding two new, deeper tanks (15 feet as opposed to 10 feet) in its place. Each tank is 100 feet long and 20.5 feet wide. At this stage in the treatment process, liquids and solids separate into two different treatment streams. All five tanks will receive new internal mechanisms that skim scum off the top and scrape solids off the bottom, sending the solids and liquids on separately for further treatment. The project also adds another grit tank which removes gravel and sand, protecting the treatment equipment and preventing clogged pipes. These improvements will also reduce energy costs.
