DSRSD Receives National Award for Water Reuse

Post Date:11/10/2025 5:00 pm

DUBLIN, Calif. (November 10, 2025) – Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) has been named a 2025 Utility of the Future Today by the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and its national partners for its leadership in water reuse, a national recognition that celebrates innovative utilities committed to sustainability and resource recovery.

For more than 30 years, DSRSD has been a leader in recycling water to conserve precious drinking water supplies. The District adopted its first Water Recycling Policy in 1992 and partnered with the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) in 1995 to produce and deliver recycled water through the DSRSD-EBMUD Recycled Water Authority (DERWA).

Today, DSRSD’s recycled water program supplies up to 25% of the total water used within its service area, providing a reliable and sustainable local source. By recycling treated wastewater for irrigation in parks, schools, and medians, DSRSD helps conserve drinking water and reduces discharges to the San Francisco Bay.

“This award recognizes decades of collaboration and innovation,” said DSRSD General Manager Jan Lee. “DSRSD’s recycled water program is a model of how local partnerships can strengthen water reliability and sustainability for the entire region.”

The Utility of the Future Today program was created by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies, Water Environment Federation, Water Research Foundation, U.S. Water Alliance, and WateReuse Association, with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. DSRSD was honored during a ceremony at the Water Environment Federation’s annual conference (WEFTEC) earlier this year.
