Running for the Board

A five-member Board of Directors governs the Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD). The Board sets policies, appoints officers, and hires and oversees the District’s General Manager. The Board exercises these powers under the authority of the Community Services District Law(PDF, 504KB) (California Government Code section 61000 et seq.).

Eligibility

To be eligible to run for the DSRSD Board of Directors, you must be a U.S. citizen, 18 years of age, and a registered voter residing within the boundaries of the District's division that you are running to represent.

Election Cycle

DSRSD Directors are elected in November of even-numbered years. The office is non-partisan, and there are five seats with staggered four-year terms. DSRSD transitioned from an "at-large" election system to an area-based "by-division" election system under the California Voting Rights Act in 2019. The election division boundaries were redrawn in December 2021 using the 2020 Decennial Census results.

• Division 2 (southwest San Ramon) and Division 4 (central Dublin) will be up for election in the general election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
• Division 1 (southeast San Ramon/Dougherty Valley), Division 3 (western Dublin), and Division 5 (eastern Dublin) will be up for election in the general election on Tuesday, November 7, 2028.

Become a Candidate

To become a candidate during an election, you must file a declaration of candidacy with the county in which the division is located. The District is a multi-county agency with its service area in portions of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Divisions 1 and 2 are located in Contra Costa County, and Divisions 3, 4, and 5 are located in Alameda County. The District authorizes and pays the counties to officiate and run its elections.

Candidates who wish to have a statement of their qualifications published in the sample ballot that goes to registered voters must pay $250 to cover publishing and printing costs and the District pays for any additional costs. Refer to the District’s Candidate's Statement Cost(PDF, 174KB) policy.

Should only one candidate run for an office to be filled, the supervising authority (Alameda County Board of Supervisors) appoints the candidate to the office; and should no candidate run for an office, the supervising authority appoints any person to the office who is qualified on the date when the election would have been held, per California Elections Code Section 10515.
