DSRSD Earns Top Awards for Innovation, Excellence

DUBLIN, Calif. (October 12, 2026) – Dublin San Ramon Services District (DSRSD) has earned two major awards that recognize the District’s leadership in innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence. DSRSD was recently named a 2026 Utility of the Future Today by the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and its national partners and received the Excellence in Information Technology Practices award from the Municipal Information Systems Association of California (MISAC). Combined, these awards are a tribute to the DSRSD staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to deliver reliable, safe, and sustainable water and wastewater services for District customers.

National award for sustainability

2026 Utility of the Future Award

DSRSD received its second Utility of the Future Today award for its long-standing success in energy generation and recovery at the District’s wastewater treatment plant. For more than 40 years, DSRSD has generated nearly all of the energy needed to operate its wastewater treatment plant using biogas produced during treatment. This approach reduces greenhouse gas emissions, lowers the District’s reliance on the power grid, and saves DSRSD about $1.4 million in energy costs each year.

“I am proud that DSRSD is one of the few elite agencies being recognized for our sustainable, efficient services to our customers,” said DSRSD Boardmember Arun Goel, who accepted the award on the District’s behalf. “We were one of 33 agencies recognized this year, out of more than 16,000 wastewater agencies across the United States.”

The Utility of the Future Today award recognizes innovative utilities committed to sustainability and resource recovery and was created by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies, Water Environment Federation, Water Research Foundation, U.S. Water Alliance, and WateReuse Association, with support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. DSRSD previously received this distinction in 2025 for its leadership in water reuse.

Technology that supports great service

2026 MISAC Excellence in IT Practices Award

The MISAC Excellence in Information Technology Practices award recognizes exceptional information technology practices in local public agencies, including planning, emergency preparedness, project management, daily operations, and cybersecurity. Reliable water and wastewater service depends not only on critical infrastructure, but also on the technology that keeps it running safely and efficiently. DSRSD’s Information Technology (IT) division partners with departments across the District to maintain reliable systems, safeguard data, and support daily operations.

“At DSRSD, our IT team has evolved into a strategic partner that plays a critical role in protecting infrastructure, supporting efficient operations, and enhancing customer service,” said DSRSD General Manager Jan Lee. “This achievement reflects the hard work of our IT team and the strong partnerships they build with every department to support reliable service for our customers.”
